HR/HMへの愛とリスペクトに満ちたアルバム『Van Weezer』
アメリカのオルタナティブ・ロックバンド、WEEZER（ウィーザー）が新アルバム『Van Weezer』を2021年5月7日にリリースした。昨年5月に発売予定だったが、新型コロナの影響を受けて発売延期となっていた。同時進行で制作していた『OK Human』が2021年1月29日に日本先行でリリースされ、本作は約3ヶ月遅れでリリースされた。
本アルバムは、ハードロック/ヘヴィメタルへの愛とリスペクトが満ちたハード・ポップ・サウンドに仕上がっている。彼らはHR/HMに影響を受けた世代。アルバムタイトルはVAN HALENから、アルバムジャケットはKIISS、Black Sabbath、Metallicaへのオマージュとなっている。
フロントマンのリヴァース・クモオはKISS、ギターのブライアン・ベルはBlack Sabbath、ベースのスコット・シュライナーはSlayerとMetallica、ドラムのパトリック・ウィルソンはVAnn HALENとRUSHの大ファンだという。
本アルバム収録シングル『HERO』のPV。新型コロナウイルスの対応で戦っている医療従事者の方々への敬意と感謝を込めた曲。
WEEZERのメンバーは、バンドの公式Instagramで医療従事者の方々へ感謝の意を伝えている。
